TO: Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
As a supporter of the World Jewish Congress, I am writing to respectfully urge you to immediately appoint a Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism.
The horrific attack that took 11 innocent Jewish lives at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh – the deadliest antisemitic attack in American history – was yet another shocking wake-up call. During this urgent time of surging antisemitic hatred in both the United States and Europe, it is essential that the United States do everything in its power to respond to this growing threat. The appointment of a Special Envoy will greatly advance U.S. policy and response on this critically important issue. Further, U.S. leadership will surely result in other countries taking notice and, hopefully, following our example.
We are grateful for your longstanding friendship with the Jewish people and the State of Israel, and we know that your goals mirror our own, namely, the safety and security of the Jewish people around the world. I hope that you will make the appointment of the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism a top priority so that we may move forward together in the fight against “the world’s oldest hatred.”
